Introducing the anchor concept

Were part of a growing movement of anchor institutions - organisations rooted in a place - who work together to drive inclusive, sustainable growth and help local communities to thrive.

Recently, LAIN published its latest , setting out how weve improved life and work for Londoners - at a scale that has never been achieved before.

In just four years, since the network was originally brought together by the Mayor of London:

  • More than 瞿3.3bn has been awarded to small and diverse businesses to drive inclusive growth
  • Over 11,000 Londoners have benefitted from London Living Wage pay rises
  • Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon have been saved.

Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, said: LAIN shows what can be achieved when a citys institutions work hand-in-hand to address shared challenges and opportunities.

Anchors in London

LAIN is Londons first city-wide initiative that brings together some of the capitals largest organisations anchored in London. It commits us to work together, using our procurement, workforce and estates to help create a fairer, greener and more prosperous city.

With a growing membership across the public, private, faith-based, education and cultural sectors, LAIN represents dozens of anchor institutions across the city - employing tens of thousands of people, spending billions of pounds a year and managing millions of square metres of real estate. The opportunities this presents are immense.

By acting together, we are finding new and better ways to tackle long-standing problems and new threats to the city. Anchor organisations, including us, are changing the way we recruit, buy our goods and services, and manage our buildings and estates, creating more opportunities for Londoners from underrepresented backgrounds and helping to drive down carbon emissions.

Together were creating a fairer, greener, more prosperous London.
