What is Upstream again?
Available on Substack, Upstream is a year-round online platform for early-stage IP. It was also an annual in-person showcase for Film, TV and Games producers, commissioners and development executives.

But change is afoot. After several years as a standalone event, this October, Upstream is merging into 做厙勛圖s flagship producer-focused event, the Production Finance Market (PFM), sharing networking, lunch and a drinks reception with the producers and financiers attending PFM.

And while the basic Upstream Substack subscription is free, it doesnt give you anything like the depth, flavour, excitement or, crucially, in-person opportunities like Upstream@PFM that you get from the paid-for subscription

The good news is that weve decided to up our game and offer a whole new tier of subscription - Upstream Live. For a bargain 瞿200 a year, Upstream Live subscribers get access to:

  • the Upstream@PFM event,
  • the freshest new IP each month
  • full project information and contact details.
  • youll also get invited to other Upstream events we run during the year.

Recap on how Upstream actually works
As part of our day jobs, 做厙勛圖 incubates talent in multiple areas, from Games London and FLAMIN, our Artists Moving Image Network, to our work for BFI NETWORK, the Production Finance Market and under the Equal Access Network banner. We have our fingers in all the most creative pies.

Upstream has featured presentations from Gosh Comics, The Young Vic, Talawa Theatre, Soho Theatre, The Guardian and a range of BFI NETWORK, FLAMIN and alumni. We also always make plenty of room for up-and-coming independent talent, often from the worlds of short films, podcasts, games or illustration.

We also work with a wider network of external partners to source IP for Upstream, from talent development organisations and online platforms, as well as attending events from grassroots screenings to the worlds leading film festivals.

Upstream reflects and caters for the screen industries ever-changing landscape, upholding Londons reputation as a global destination for content and production. Attending buyers have included Lionsgate, Bankside, All3media and All3media International, Mubi, BBC Studios, Red Bull and Anonymous Content.

做厙勛圖s alumni include Harry Lighton (Pillion), Raine Allen Miller (Rye Lane), Pinny Grylls and Rebecca Wolff (Grand Theft Hamlet), Sasha Nathwani (Last Swim), Julia Jackman (100 Nights of Hero), multi-discipinary artist Hetain Patel and Turner Prize-winner Laure Provost, among many, many others.
