Working Class Short Film Comedy Script Lab
Do you identify as a working class filmmaker or screen-writer?
Do you have a comedy script that could use development with a view to applying to short film funds?
This Lab will help you develop the project and offer career enhancing advice and networking opportunities.
Who is it for?
Participation in this Lab is open to working class screen-writers who have a comedy short film script under 10 minutes in length (10 pages or under).
As in previous years, the Lab is aimed at underrepresented groups in the film industry. This call is for writers or writer-directors from a working class or low socio-economic background. We are aiming to support writers who have not had the same access or opportunity to industry due to their financial upbringing or circumstances. A working class background may of course intersect with other forms of under-representation. *
We’re looking for applications from people who haven’t yet made a feature or received funding from BFI NETWORK or other major funding bodies.
You cannot be in full time education, must be resident in one of the 32 boroughs of Greater London and able to commit to attending online workshops, some in-person sessions and industry events, as well as completing writing work between meetings.
Your script idea must be original, e.g. not based on existing novels, short stories or other literary works.
We are limiting the genre to comedy although of course there can be overlap with other genres. E.g. horror comedy, rom-com, sci-fi comedy etc.

Over a 4 month period from Nov the Lab programme offers script development, meetings, workshops and access to Film London Labs and networking opportunities.
